Small-Group Facilitator Training
๐๏ธ Wednesday 15th October
โ 9:30am to 3:30pm
๐ University of Exeter, South West Institute of Technology (SWIOT) Building, AI Arena Room
This training will be delivered by Nick Gardham, CEO of Community Organisers. It will support participants in developing the skills and confidence to run small groups as part of a community assembly. Topics include building trust and empowering community voices, exploring tools for inclusive participation, and navigating conflict with confidence. The session combines theory, interactive activities, and reflection.
Everyone is welcome, no prior knowledge or experience necessary. If you want to get involved with running assemblies, this practical, face-to-face training will provide you with the basics you need to get started; and if you've already facilitated assemblies before, it will take your skills and confidence to the next level! We encourage you to join even if you don't plan on facilitating assemblies.
This workshop is the same as the one on Saturday 18th October. You only need to attend one day. These two workshops replace the one previously planned for Saturday 4th October, which we cancelled to avoid clashing with Trans Pride Exeter.

GSI Assembly
๐๏ธ Wednesday 22nd October
โ 2:30pm to 4:30pm
๐ Roborough Studios, Exeter University Streatham Campus
This assembly will be run in collaboration with the amazing Laurie Laybourn, the award-winning researcher, author and strategist. Laurie will guide us on a visualisation journey of what 2050 may hold, after which we will collectively deliberate on the priorities we must focus on today.
Everyone is welcome - Exeter residents, students, academics, and non-academics alike. This will be a space to come together, listen, and discuss the issues that matter most to our community, and to explore what we can do together.ย
Community Catch-up
๐๏ธ Sunday 9th November
โ 2pm to 4pm
๐ Exeter Community Centre, 17 St David's Hill
Community catch-ups are regular, informal gatherings, open to all, where we keep in touch, share ideas, and plan ahead for future assemblies and the projects that grow out of them (like the Cool Hub Network). Theyโre also a space we can practice facilitation skills and strengthen participatory, deliberative democracy in a relaxed way.
The community centre has disabled access and we will be in a room on the ground floor. Bring snacks to share; we'll provide tea & coffee.
Everyoneโs welcome, whether youโre a regular or brand new, as we build community together.
