We are a volunteer run group of local people who are dedicated to increasing understanding about community assemblies across the population of Exeter, and involving local people in them.
We believe that bringing people together will strengthen our local community resilience, and our neighbourhoods will become better places to live and work, and better able to thrive in an increasingly uncertain world.
Exeter Community Assembly is an independent organisation and does not support or endorse any political party. We exist to raise awareness of community assemblies, involve more people in them, and support the activities and actions that emerge from them.
Our assemblies are open to everyone. They create a space where a wide range of voices can be heard, enabling people to discuss and decide what they want for their community and what changes are needed. The outcomes of each assembly are published on our website. We invite anyone in public office or in a political role to consider these outcomes when shaping policies and manifestos, helping ensure decisions reflect the views of the wider community.
We also encourage local groups of all kinds to hold their own assemblies and integrate this approach into their decision-making. Exeter Community Assembly offers advice, guidance, and training to support this. Many of our members are experienced facilitators who may be available to help organisations interested in adopting participatory and deliberative practices.
We advocate for people being more involved in local democracy by coming together regularly, talking about and deliberating things that matter to them, and participating in decision making about things which affect them.
